Mid coast service
Stand on Hedges Avenue and you can see most of what this stretch is: apartments, cafes, agents, a surf club, a lot of small offices over shops. Between Broadbeach and Burleigh Heads the Gold Coast Highway passes through Mermaid Beach, Nobby Beach and Miami, with Mermaid Waters behind on the lakes. We provide photocopier service and printer repairs across all of it. Phone with the street, the make and what the screen says. The price is agreed on the call.
Mermaid Beach sits behind a line of apartment blocks and a thin strip of commerce along the Gold Coast Highway and Hedges Avenue. Real estate agents, property managers, beauty and wellness rooms, cafes, a couple of law firms and the people who run the apartment buildings, who are strata managers and building managers with a steady habit of printing.
Strata work comes in waves. Levy notices, meeting agendas, minutes, insurance renewals. A body corporate manager may print hundreds of pages in one afternoon and nothing the next day. The copier takes the beating all at once, so we suggest looking at it ahead of the meeting cycle.

Real estate is a big employer here. Sales and rental offices want colour for brochures, black and white for contracts and a scanner that works. A property manager scans a hundred inspection reports in a day, and the feeder takes more abuse than any other part of the machine.
Feeder faults come in four flavours. Pads that have worn smooth and let two sheets through. Rollers coated in paper dust that slip. A glass strip with a mark that shows up as a black line down every scan. And staples left in stacks that scratch the glass. We know all four, and we usually know which from the description.
Ask your team to take the staples out. It saves more repairs than any maintenance schedule.
The mid coast is not one place. This is a rough guide.
| Who is there | What to plan for | |
|---|---|---|
| Mermaid Beach, Hedges Avenue and the highway | Agents, strata managers, wellness rooms, cafes, legal | Upstairs rooms, tight parking |
| Nobby Beach | Cafes, studios, boutiques, hospitality offices | Small footprints, shared entries |
| Miami, near Hillcrest Parade | Makers, markets, trades, studios | Unit numbers, loading zones |
| Miami High and the school side | School administration | Term times and sign in |
| Mermaid Waters and Markeri Street | Light commercial units, suites, trades | Rear access, a contact at the unit |
The creative end of the mid coast is bigger than most people expect. Architects, interior designers, signage and branding studios and photographers work out of units and upstairs suites between the beach and the lake. They notice colour faults the way a cook notices salt.
A machine that prints the same blue differently from morning to afternoon is telling you its toner or its imaging parts are changing. One that shows a thin line across the page is reporting a roller or a blade. A page that comes out slightly pink all over is nearly always a calibration or a single colour starving. We ask you to send a printed page, and the technician takes the matching parts.
Miami has its own character, with a market, craft producers, small food businesses and units where things are made. Behind them are the trades, mechanics and suppliers that keep a busy area going. Printing in these places is practical. Job sheets, invoices, labels, stock lists.
Food businesses ask us special questions. Grease in the air, flour on a surface, a printer standing next to a fryer or a prep bench. Wherever possible we move the machine, and wipe down the paper path while we are there.
Mermaid Waters is largely residential, with a school and shops and a pocket of light commercial units. Offices there are small. A physio with one multifunction machine, a builder with a laser printer and a cabinet, a design office in a unit with a view of a car park.
Many of these machines are in good condition and fail from small things: a pickup roller, a sensor, a scan setting. The visit is short and the bill is modest, and we say so up front when we can.
Within a few streets of the beach, the air has salt in it. A scanner glass left alone for a few weeks shows a film, and a machine near an open window shows it faster. Storm season on the Gold Coast can mean a power cut mid job, and a copier that has been cut off in the middle of a page can come back with a code that does not clear until the paper path is checked.
Cut the power properly if a storm is coming, and leave the machine off until it passes.
Canon and Konica Minolta are common in the creative and agency offices. Toshiba and Kyocera hold the larger practices and the strata managers. Brother and HP lasers sit under a lot of desks. We service all of them, and as an independent business we have no reason to push one over another.
Our technicians are trained, experienced and certified. They carry common spares, 98% of repairs are fixed on the first visit, and if the same fault returns we fix it again at no charge. If the lines are busy, the call is logged and returned, and same day service is available.
The mid coast has a long tradition of small accommodation and the offices behind it: holiday apartment managers, boutique stays, cafes that double as event spaces, catering firms. Their printing is dockets, booking forms, guest information, supplier orders and rosters.
The seasonal pattern is the thing to plan around. Peak weeks bring a run of printing that starts at six and finishes late. A machine that has not been used much in a quiet fortnight may show its first fault on the Friday of a long weekend, when staff are stretched and nobody has time. We suggest a check in the quiet weeks and a spare toner on the shelf.
Staff turnover is high in hospitality, and the person who knew how to clear a jam has often left. A one page note stuck beside the machine, written in plain words, is worth more than a manual. We are glad to help write one.
Agents and designers print brochures, floor plans and presentation packs in colour. The paper matters more than they expect. A glossy stock that is too heavy for the machine will crease on the fuser. A very smooth coated stock can slip in the feed rollers and double feed. Paper that is slightly damp from a humid week will curl as it leaves the fuser and jam at the exit.
If a particular job keeps failing and the rest of the day is fine, tell us the stock. The fix may be a tray setting, a media type selection or a different ream, and we are glad to say so over the phone.
Most large apartment buildings along this stretch have a caretaker, a building manager or a small management office on site. A copier there handles notices, access forms, maintenance requests and the endless photocopying of keys and fobs paperwork. It is used in short bursts and in a room that is often a converted store cupboard.
Small, warm, unventilated rooms are bad for copiers. If the room gets hot, the fuser runs hotter, toner softens and paper curls. We have moved machines a few metres and fixed jams that had been going on for months.
A large number of copiers around here are on a lease with a service agreement attached. If yours is, read the agreement first. It may say who must repair the machine and how fast. If repairs are your responsibility, or the agreement has ended and the machine stayed, ring us and we will look at it and quote.
We are an independent service business. We do not act for the maker or a dealer, so what you hear is what the machine needs.
A phone call we encourage is the one that starts, nothing is wrong yet. Strata cycles, holiday weeks, end of financial year, the week before a campaign launch. If you can name the busiest week of your year, we can look at the machine before it. The visit is shorter, the parts are on the van, and nobody is under pressure.
If the machine is on a rental or lease and you are unsure who is responsible for service, ring us anyway. We will look at it, tell you what we find and give you a price.
Machines tell you about themselves through the senses before the screen does. A new grinding or clicking from the paper path usually means a roller or gear is going. A hot plastic or scorched smell after a long run points to the fuser area. A copier that is warm to the touch on the outside after a short job is working too hard, perhaps because the vents are blocked by a box of paper stacked on top.
Report what you hear and smell when you ring. It is information a technician can use, and it does not need a technical word.
Heat inside the box
The fuser runs hot enough to scorch a sleeve and it stays hot long after the machine goes quiet. A tech who does not wait, or who skips the cool down, burns a thumb and sometimes cracks a roller.
We test before we replace, and we tell you what we found. Fusers are not cheap and we would rather not fit one you did not need.

Yes. Many of them have a heavy print cycle around meetings, and we suggest a check beforehand.
Often it is only a mark on the scanner glass or feeder strip. We say which it looks like on the call.
Frequently. It is usually calibration or one colour running low on imaging parts.
Yes, along with Miami, Nobby Beach and the highway strip.
Yes. Grease and steam shorten its life. We suggest a better spot and clean what we can.
They scratch the glass and jam the feeder. Taking them out before scanning saves repairs.
It is agreed on the phone before anyone is booked, and nothing is locked in.
Same day service is available. Ring early with the street, the make and the fault.
